Viagra vs. Levitra: Differences, Effectiveness, Side Effects, and Which May Be Better for You

Viagra contains sildenafil and Levitra contains vardenafil. Both belong to a group of medicines called PDE5 inhibitors and are prescribed for erectile dysfunction (ED). They are not interchangeable for everyone, and a clinician should consider a person’s health, other medicines, and preferences.

Effectiveness and how they differ

Both medicines can help with ED when prescribed appropriately, but neither causes an automatic erection; sexual stimulation is still needed. Individual response varies, so one cannot be called universally more effective based only on the brand name.

Their active ingredients and product instructions differ. A prescriber can explain how timing, meals, other medicines, and medical conditions may affect which option is suitable. Do not take sildenafil and vardenafil together or take more than prescribed.

Side effects and important safety points

Common effects associated with PDE5 inhibitors can include headache, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, dizziness, or visual symptoms. Seek urgent medical help for chest pain, fainting, sudden loss of vision or hearing, or an erection lasting more than four hours.

Both product labels contraindicate use with nitrate medicines because the combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Tell a healthcare professional about heart or blood-pressure conditions and all medicines, including alpha-blockers and recreational nitrites, before using either medicine.

Which may be better for you?

The appropriate choice depends on the person, not a general ranking. A clinician can review cardiovascular health, other prescriptions, side effects, and treatment goals. Do not buy or use prescription ED medicines without a valid prescription from a licensed clinician.
